Coffee story
Thirikwa Cooperative is a distinguished producer group of approximately 3,700 active members who deliver their cherries to its sole factory, Gakuyini, where single-station oversight and over 20 years of managerial expertise ensure exceptional quality.
Utilising a traditional fully washed method, hand-sorted cherries undergo overnight fermentation and an additional 16-hour soak for top grades, developing a silky base of butterscotch that yields to a striking, complex core of deep blackcurrant and a sparkling splash of grapefruit. The parchment is then dried on raised beds for 8 to 14 days, settling into a sophisticated, wine-like finish reminiscent of pinot noir.
Beyond its expressive cup profile, Thirikwa champions sustainability by recycling processing water from the local Kiri River and returning coffee pulp to farmers for organic compost, ensuring a closed-loop system that supports both the community and long-term soil health.
